One of the most successful captains of the Indian cricket team born on July 8, 1972, in Kolkata. He is also called as Dada (meaning ”elder brother” in Bengali) by teammates and fans.
Sourav started his career in January 1992 against West Indies. And, in his first innings, he scored a century. He is currently serving as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
His jersey numbers are 1, 99, and 24.
God of the Offside
He served 15 years for the Indian national team as a left-handed batsman and a few years as the captain. He is also known as “God of the offside” for prolific batting through the offside. His masterstrokes towards the square of the wicket and through the covers mesmerized the cricket lovers.

For his achievement in his career, and serving for the nation, he was awarded by Padam Shri in 2004. He scored a unique treble of 10000 runs, 100 wickets and 100 catches in his journey.

Being a Bengali boy, he got famous by the name “Prince of Calcutta”. He made his state proud and showed a way to lead the nation.
Mr. Ganguly also was the star player of Kolkata Knight Riders in the season 2008 and 2010. And, when in 2011 KKR did not buy dada, his fans protested throughout the country. They protested by starting rallies and signature campaigns. Also, his fans protest in the stadium as ” No Dada No KKR”.
